Terms of Service
Last updated October 25, 2026
These Terms are an agreement between you (the business signing up, "you" or "Client") and Call Lantern, operated by Steven Young, a sole proprietor in Oregon ("Call Lantern", "we", "us"). By starting a pilot or paying for the service, you agree to them.
1. The service
Call Lantern provides Lantra, an AI voice receptionist that answers calls forwarded to it, takes messages, collects caller details, can offer booking or callback requests, and sends you a recap of every call by text and email.
2. Free pilot
New clients get a free 14-day pilot. No charge is made during the pilot. At the end you choose whether to continue. If you do not, we turn the service off and you should remove any call forwarding to us.
3. Pricing and billing
After the pilot: a one-time setup fee of $500 and $397 per month, flat. No per-minute charges. Service is month-to-month with no long-term contract. Monthly fees are billed in advance through our payment processor (Stripe) and are not refunded for partial months. We will give at least 30 days' email notice of any price change. Fees do not include taxes, which you are responsible for where applicable.
4. Cancelling
Cancel any time by emailing [email protected]. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid month. You must remove call forwarding to Lantra before that date. We may suspend or end service for non-payment or breach of these Terms.
5. Emergencies and urgency
- When a caller mentions certain life-safety situations (for example gas smell, fire, smoke, sparking, carbon monoxide), Lantra is designed to tell the caller to get to safety and call 911 or their utility, and to alert you. This is a courtesy, not a guarantee.
- You decide what is urgent. Every call is recapped to you so you can judge urgency yourself. Lantra's urgency flags are a convenience only.
- You keep your own emergency process and handle your own customers and jobs, the same as with any answering service.
- You must give us, and keep current, an escalation phone number and a fallback plan for when the service is unavailable.
6. Your responsibilities
- Give accurate business information (hours, services, prices Lantra may state, service area) and tell us promptly when it changes. Lantra will not quote prices you have not given her.
- Read call recaps promptly and return calls as needed.
- Call forwarding is under your control. You set it up with your phone carrier and you can turn it off at any time. We are not responsible for carrier outages or forwarding errors.
- Keep your account contact details current.
7. AI disclosure and call recording
Lantra identifies herself as an AI assistant and tells callers the call may be recorded. Some states (including Oregon for some calls, California, Washington, Florida, Pennsylvania, Illinois and others) require all-party consent to record. You are responsible for making sure your use of the service, including recording and any texts sent to your callers, complies with the laws that apply to you and your callers, and for any disclosures you choose to add on your own website, voicemail or invoices.
8. Acceptable use
You may not use the service to make outbound sales or robocalls, send unsolicited texts, harass or deceive callers, collect payment card numbers or sensitive health data by phone, or for anything illegal. You may not resell the service or attempt to copy or reverse engineer it.
9. Availability
We work to keep the service running, but it relies on third parties (voice AI, phone and texting providers, internet). It is provided "as is" and "as available". We do not guarantee it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that every call, message, transcript or recap will be delivered or accurate.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent allowed by law, Call Lantern is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost jobs, missed calls, property damage or personal injury arising from calls handled or not handled by the service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the fees you paid us in the 3 months before the claim arose.
11. Indemnity
You agree to defend and indemnify Call Lantern against claims by your customers, callers or others arising from your services, your handling of calls and emergencies, information you gave us, or your breach of these Terms or the law (including recording and texting laws).
12. Your data
Your call data belongs to you. We handle it as described in our Privacy Policy.
13. Changes
We may update these Terms. We will email you about material changes at least 30 days before they take effect. Continuing to use the service after that means you accept them.
14. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Oregon. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Clackamas County, Oregon.
